I think, that it would be advantagous/practical, reasonable to
support for example kernel 2.6.15 from Ubuntu.

Ubuntu kernel will be optimised for servers. It will be stable, tuned
and supported for five years(!!!).
Many sysadmin would receive this act with thanks.
