devfs is more and more obsolete, deprecated and afaik most of it is
allready removed from the vanilla kernel, it's replaced by sysfs/udev.
I'd never try to mount it witch something > 2.6.12. If I understand you
right it hangs after trying to mount devfs, so I'd remove it from the
kernel first and then try again. May not be the solution of your
problem, but can't be wrong to remove it ;)
